Volunteering
In UK
CHIT is all-volunteer and we need your help in spreading the word about our work and how others can get involved. Three examples of how you can do this include:
Telling your friends about CHIT. Our website is intended as a resource to help, but we can also provide materials like our trifold.
Arranging opportunities to speak about CHIT or inviting us to come and speak. Curry nights, Indian cooking lessons, coffee mornings, are all examples that have worked well.
Participating in fund-raising events - for example sponsored runs, school "mufti days".
...And we can always use good communications skills to help with promotion, grant submissions, and not least this website!
In India
CHIT is small, so we don't have an ongoing volunteering programme. But since 2005 we have found opportunities for teachers and medical clinicians to serve in India. Most recently, in 2019 two young teachers, between jobs spent 3 months working introducing the teachers to a wide range of techniques to help them manage the English Medium curriculum. Volunteers have also set up computer systems or trialed using solar electricity to power the water pumps in the Bapatla home. In 2020 we are hopeful that an American volunteer will be able to fill the position of school Principal for a period, although current plans are being disrupted by COVID-19.
